Wolverine
Gulo gulo
Range: Alaska, Canada & Russia. Smaller populations in the lower 48 states.
Threats: Though currently classified as a species of least concern, their populations are declining due to hunting, trapping, and poisoning to protect livestock. They depend on deep snowpack for food sources, which is decreasing in many areas with climate change. Historically their range included the Sierra Nevada mountains, where only one now remains: “Buddy”
Adaptations: One of the toughest animals around, their power & aggression finds them the biggest barrels. Just don’t get in their way.
