California Condor
Gymnogyps californianus

Range: California, Utah, Arizona, Baja California. Historically spanned across North America.

Threats: Habitat loss, lead poisoning, poaching, power-line accidents, & DDT contamination. California Condors diminished to only 22 individuals by 1987. Their slow reproduction rate slows down recovery efforts. Good news: today there are over 500 individuals, many living free in the wild.

Adaptations: Their 10 ft wingspan gives them the ultimate paddle power & glide.
