Threats: Habitat degradation & loss due to development, and rodenticide use associated with agriculture. An ecosystem engineer and keystone species, they are essential to the grassland habitat, much of which has been diminished.
Adaptations: The Giant Kangaroo Rat’s powerful legs enable swift maneuvers.
